SOMINKA (Eutin)

 

Biografie
.. Wir sind die irish Folk Nachwuchsband Sominka aus Kiel Entstanden ist die Gruppe 2006 aus dem Jugendfolkworkshop im Hof Akkerboom. Ehemals von Bernd Unstedt geleitet, wird dort musikinteressierten Jugendlichen Irische Folksmusik vermittelt. Von dort beziehen wir auch heute noch neue Stücke und musikalische Anregungen von Nils und Verena Piper. Inzwischen spielen wir auf Geburtstagen, Volksfesten und anderen Gelegenheiten. Unsere momentane Besetzung besteht aus Johanna, Geige und Bratsche, Jonathan, Gitarre und Gesang, Linnea, Querflöte und Tinwhistle, Dörte, Gitarre und Felicitas an der Djembe. Mit fetzigen Tunes, melodischen Liedern und dem ein oder anderen romantischen Waltzer versuchen wir unseren Zuhörern die irische Musik schmackhaft zu machen und einen frischen jugendlichen Wind unter die Kieler Folk-Knacker zu bringen. Wir freuen uns über jede Möglichkeit unsere Musik auf öffentlichen oder privaten Veranstaltungen präsentieren zu können!
Beschreibung
Sominka besteht aus Johanna (Geige), Linnea (Flöten), Jonathan und Dörte (Gitarrren) und zu guter letzt Kjell (Djembe). Sominka bringt seit 2006 einen frischen Wind in die Norddeutsche Folk Szene. Hervorgegangen aus einem Irish Folk Jugendworkshop, zeigen die 5 Kieler Jung und Deern, dass irische Traditionals, fetzige Balkan-Tunes und schräge Klezmer Rhythmen keine Altersbegrenzung kennen und absolut Tanzbar sind.

T.S. Brooks



T.S. Brooks resides in Berlin where he plays concerts and writes music. He finds this enjoyable.
Biografie

Ask T.S. Brooks, and he'll say his music lies halfway between the city
and the country. But he admits to the casual listener it could come
across as none of that. Nevertheless he straddles two extremes - that
of the noise of anonymity, and the soothing flow of isolation.

As a practical matter, Brooks' music can be categorized as
singer/songwriter. Fair enough. But his songs, ostensibly innocuous,
become complex and paradoxical. His melodies attach, his voice soars
when it should not - and quickly thereafter one has been wrapped into
his idiosyncratic world - and it all makes sense.

Admittedly influenced by artists such as Townes Van Zandt, Neil Young, and Lou Reed, Brooks paints pictures that allow the listener to bask
in the light of detachment; in a place where you can hear yourself
listening.

Earlier

For some ten years, T.S. Brooks cut his teeth in the American
indie-psych band, Minmae. When that was over, Brooks moved to Europe
to pursue folk music full time, free of the joys and follies that come
with the former. In Berlin he found a thriving acoustic scene, and the
city's many basement venues and house shows suited the intimacy of his
music, as well as providing a platform for its urgency.

Upon arrival, Brooks had just released his first album, 'Tertiary
Allotment Is A Delightfulness' on San Francisco, California's
Snowstorm Music. In the two years since he has gone on to release 'The
Spanish Years', recorded during a month in the outskirts of Barcelona,
Spain, and the epic 'Alles Gute', recorded in old Friedrichshain
factory in Berlin. Between these two albums, Brooks also recorded a
limited edition 12" ep and digital-only ep release, available on
Bandcamp.com.

To be sure, a new album is in the works. If you ask Brooks, it will
remain somewhere between the country and the city. Don't be surprised
if that distance incorporates many people, places, and stories along the way.

Gillian Grassie (USA)

Die preisgekrönte Harfenistin und Songwriterin Gillian Grassie aus
Philadelphia befasste sich schon in früher Jugend mit der Oper und trat mit
verschieden Chören an ehrwürdigen Veranstaltungsorten auf. Grassies
Interpretation der traditionellen schottischen Harfe erbrachte ihr fünf
Wettbewerbssiege und eine Einladung zum internationalen Harfenfestival in
Edinburgh im zarten Alter von 14. Seitdem hat sie die EP „Unwitting Muse“
und das Album „Serpentine“ veröffentlicht.

In ihrer Musik vereint die studierte
Literaturwissenschaftlerin Songtexte, die von
Autoren wie Philip Larkin und Robert Frost
beeinflusst sind mit filigranem Harfenspiel.
Ihr innovativer Umgang mit dem klassischen
Instrument, ihr ausdrucksstarker Gesang und ihr
anspruchsvolles, aber trotzdem greifbares
Songwriting veranlassten die Thomas J. Watson
Foundation und einige Fans zu einer Crowdfunding-
Aktion, die die Finanzierung ihres zweiten Albums
„The Hinterhaus“ sicherte.
Grassies charmante und einnehmende
Bühnenpräsenz überzeugte bereits das Publikum in
Nord- und Südamerika und Asien.
Im Rahmen des „SONGS & WHSIPERS“ CIRCUIT 01/2012 wird Gillian
Grassie in Nordwesteuropa zu sehen sein.
